Getting started

Simply email info@jelly-legs.co.uk, or our club administrator Geeta at geeta@jelly-legs.co.uk.
You’ll join in with our jog/walk group and build up from there. The minimum level of fitness we require is that you can comfortably walk at a brisk pace for 60 minutes before your taster session. If you’re returning from injury or have any health implications, please consult your doctor for approval. For insurance purposes we may require a medical note.
Our jog/walk group will be ideal for you to gain confidence and get reacquainted with running. Once you feel ready, you can join in with our 4 mile group run.
The minimum level of fitness we recommend is that you can comfortably walk at a brisk pace for 60 minutes, ideally three times a week, before your taster session. Before starting any new form of exercise, please check in with your doctor first.
There is nothing to be nervous about. Jelly Legs provides a welcoming, social and non-competitive environment. Arrive a stranger, leave as friends.
Yes, you can. Exercise, combined with a healthy diet, is a perfect way of losing weight and boosting your confidence. You would join our jog/walk group to ease into exercise and avoid putting too much pressure on your joints. Please make sure you can comfortably walk at a brisk pace for 60 minutes, ideally three times a week, before incorporating any running into your sessions.

Our sessions

During the winter months the evening runs are around the streets of Canterbury and Deal so we can use streetlighting. We rotate the locations of all our meeting places to keep the routes as varied and interesting as possible. During the summer months, we take our runs through the beautiful southeast Kent countryside and surrounding footpaths. We provide a monthly programme which shows the exact location of each session.
We meet at 6.20pm for a 6.30pm start, with our Wednesday club night meeting at 6.15pm.
Once a member, you have the flexibility to run with both our Canterbury and Deal groups.
We aim for our sessions to last 60 minutes, however this can overrun. Our jog/walk group covers up to 3.5 miles, plus we offer 4+ and 5+ mile group runs. For our 3 and 4 mile groups, the pace is conversational. With the longer distance, the run pace is quicker to cover the mileage within an hour or so.
At our club we always run as a group and ensure no one ever gets left behind, as we advocate a loop-back system. Our leaders will ensure those at the back of the group are not left behind or forced to run at a pace they struggle with. If you need to walk, someone will walk with you.
Yes, we run in all weathers, come wind, rain, or shine! When a yellow weather warning has been issued, or there is ice or snow, our leaders make a judgement call at 5pm and a message is shared in our members’ private WhatsApp group.
You can come as often as you want. When doing something new, or wanting to improve, consistency is key, so we encourage you to come each week. That said, life has a habit of getting in the way, so don’t worry if you miss club sessions.

Health and kit

Absolutely. Please ensure you always have your inhaler with you. At the start of the session, please let your run leader or run buddy know which pocket it is in.
One of the best things about running is that you don’t need fancy equipment or expensive clothing to start: all you need is a pair of running trainers. As you get into your running, we’d highly recommend a ‘Gait Analysis’ to match your trainer to your running style; our nearest shop is The Running Outlet in Canterbury (10% off when you show your JL membership card). For women, a good supportive sports bra is advisable. To begin, wear layers (a hoody or light jacket, t-shirt, and leggings or tracksuit bottoms) that you can remove as you warm up. Once a member, you’ll receive a club technical vest or t-shirt, with long-sleeve and hi-vis options available to buy.
No. We view running outdoors with headphones as a safety hazard. You won’t be able to hear leader instructions, electric cars, cyclists, or someone approaching.
We welcome anybody over the age of 18. We can cater for members under 18, however they must always be accompanied by a parent or guardian who must also take part in the club session.
