Running provides people with the opportunity to improve their health and fitness while at the same time getting out of their homes and into the fresh air, enjoying everything their local area has to offer:
Our Canterbury Group meets on a Tuesday and Thursday evening. We cater for Beginners/Returners, Improvers and Intermediates. We provide a monthly programme which gives you all the venue details for each session.
Tuesday: Improvers and Intermediates meeting at 6:30pm.
Thursday: Improvers and Intermediates meeting at 6:30pm.
Hear from our Canterbury Group Leader - Sarah Hinton:-
I began running when I was child as both my Mum and Dad were keen runners and members of a local athletics club. Like most people I stopped for a while and then took up running again about 10 years ago when I moved into the area. Completely hooked on running I went on a UK Athletics Coach in Running and Fitness course and started my own running group. I started Jelly Legs as I wanted to provide a club for both men and women of all abilities.
I have taken part in lots of local runs and in 2008 I plucked up the courage to run the London Marathon, which is something I had wanted to do for a while as I remembered watching and cheering on my Dad when I was a child. Whilst I do still regularly enter races and Park Runs, I tend to get my runners high from watching our members achieve their personal goals. There's nothing more satisfying than seeing their beaming faces as they cross the finishing line!
I'm a big fan of adventure challenges and off road running, so you will often find me out and about on the local trails, with dogs in tow!
Member Testimonials:-
"I joined the Canterbury branch of Jelly Legs in January this year as I was recommended by a friend. Until I joined Jelly Legs I had been running mostly on my own and entering a few races here and there, but with no real routine or structure to the way I was approaching my runs. As soon as I started running with Jelly Legs I realised just how valuable running with a group is in terms of the enjoyment side of running, as well as the advice that I get from the leaders and all the other members. Running once or twice a week with Jelly Legs has brought structure and focus to my running and has allowed me to train effectively for races and to do some really lovely runs on the various routes in and around Canterbury. I never believed I could, or would ever, be able to run with a running club, but Jelly Legs offers me, a novice runner by any definition, the security of running with others in a non-competitive, supportive environment."
"Jelly Legs has been an amazing experience for me. I started just over a year ago in May as a complete beginner and have loved every session I have been to. It has been wonderful to make progress – from beginners walking/running to be able to run 6 miles, which I never thought I’d be able to do. Everyone is very welcoming and there is never pressure, people always loop back for each other and look out for each other. Running and getting fitter has made me feel more confident. I also love the feeling of being outside, especially in the summer when we get to run in the most beautiful countryside locations that I never knew existed. On top of all that I’ve met some lovely new people, so thank you Sarah and all the team from Jelly Legs!"
"I joined Jelly Legs Canterbury in October 2011 through Canterbury Christchurch University's Trysport Scheme. Throughout my time with Jelly Legs I have been able to develop my running ability and the flexibility of the different distances means that I can choose the distance which is right for me on the night. I have been made very welcome by all the members and was able to complete my first ever race Whistable 10K in 1 hour and 3 seconds. I am now looking forward to many others runs with Jelly Legs and looking forward to more races as well."
